Tourism direction
The areas of tourism I am most interested in exploring, studying and gradually applying.
My MSc Tourism Management gave me a structured foundation in tourism: how destinations work, how visitors make choices, and how tourism connects with economies, cultures and environments. The areas below are the directions I am actively developing.
Focus areas
Four areas I am exploring
Health tourism
My previous healthcare background naturally shapes this interest. I am curious about how destinations, facilities and services can contribute to health, wellbeing and travel experiences, and how medical, wellness and preventative health-related travel connect with visitor expectations.
Sport tourism
I am interested in sport-related travel, participation events, stadium experiences and the longer-term effects that sport tourism can have on destinations and their visitors. This area connects directly to my MSc dissertation on football stadium tours.
Cultural tourism
I am interested in heritage, interpretation, place identity and the way visitors understand and experience culture. My earlier work as an objects handler gave me a small, direct introduction to how objects and stories can shape a visitor's encounter with a place.
Responsible tourism
This is the thread that runs through the other three. I am interested in how tourism can create value for destinations, communities, visitors and the environment, while also recognising the trade-offs involved. Sustainability is part of what I mean by responsible tourism, but I prefer the emphasis on responsibility and relationships rather than on labels alone.

Context
Saudi Arabia as a setting
Saudi Arabia is the setting where I am watching much of this take shape. Tourism is expanding quickly, and the decisions made during this phase will shape visitor experience, cultural presentation, sport and health-related offerings, and the long-term outcomes for destinations and communities.
I am interested in observing and understanding how these areas develop, rather than making claims about specific projects or organisations that I have not verified directly.

Responsibility, not just labels
On this site I use "responsible tourism" as my preferred wording. It includes sustainability, but it also carries the idea of responsibility toward destinations, communities, visitors and the environment. I find that broader framing more honest for where I am now.
